The Fitness League - all teachers are fully qualified in the Bagot-Stack System of exercise
If you are interested in learning more about the history of Mary Bagot Stack and the League, you can find some inspiration here!
A Unique System of Exercise
This method was originally developed in the 1930s by Mary Bagot Stack, whose vision was to create a “Complete Body Workout” with particular emphasis on central control. She described it as “the steady centre formed by drawing the lower back and abdomen strongly towards each other.”
Today, in Yoga and Pilates, this principle is known as Core Stability. At the Fitness League, we call it Posture in Action – the ability to move the upper body and limbs freely while remaining anchored to a strong, stable centre. From this position, exercises can be performed safely, effectively, and with confidence.
The Role of Music
Enjoyment is key to any exercise programme – and that’s where music plays a vital role. Our teachers carefully select a wide variety of music to match each exercise, helping you work to your maximum potential while keeping the class lively and enjoyable.
Every session begins with a gentle warm-up, gradually raising your pulse and breathing rate while mobilising your joints and stretching your muscles. With rhythmic, flowing movements, your body is “loosened up” and fully prepared for the exercises that follow. Using music as an expressive tool is one of the things that truly sets the Fitness League apart from other exercise systems.
Safe, Effective, and Inclusive
Our classes are designed to be low-impact, powerful, and safe, reducing stress on weight-bearing joints and making them suitable for all ages and abilities. Physiotherapists frequently recommend them, and many members say that regular attendance has helped them recover more quickly from illness or injury.
At the Fitness League, exercise is not just about movement – it’s about strength, recovery, confidence, and joy.
We all know that exercise gives you that feel good factor! So why not make it your weekly fix? Our classes provide a warm friendly welcome where each teacher takes a personal interest in the progress of their members. Under her tuition there will be a noticeable improvement in posture, mobility, muscle strength and stamina.
Today, the Fitness League Ireland is thriving, mainly due to the fact that the late Isolde McCullagh through hard work, enthusiasm and belief in the Bagot Stack System of Exercise trained many of the current Irish teachers.
